About
Yoga pure yoga classes are taught by Jenny Oates She is currently completing a British Wheel of Yoga teacher training diploma with Jacqueline Purnell of Richmond Yogashala.
What is 'yogapureyoga'?
'I've called my classes yoga pure yoga because I'm interested in paring yoga down to its bare essentials: breath, posture and mindfulness. I've studied yoga for over 10 years now, with teachers from a variety of traditions. I want to offer students in my classes the opportunity to benefit from my experiences in a form that is accessible to everyone.
Yoga in the West, and especially in London, is big business these days but I don't think it should be about snazzy outfits, lots of equipment or yoga accessories, or paying a fortune to attend exclusive classes. I think yoga classes are at their best when they are simple, basic and when the practice makes the student feel good. Pure yoga is not about making money or making anyone feel inadequate.
I'm lucky enough to not have to run the classes for profit. I'll cover my costs and then at the end of the year any profit made will go to charity. The classes therefore offer yoga in as pure an exchange as I can manage in central London when room hire, training and advertising are not cheap.'
What does the future hold for yogapureyoga?
'Well my teaching time is limited by my day job and also by making time for my own yoga practice, but my next project will be to offer a class on 'yoga for anxiety and depression'. These classes will take place on Sundays at the Yoga Therapy Centre on Pentonville Road.
